Outback Oven Pizza

In this video we bake “Ihatchetjack’s” bread recipe in a “RandyHood” style outback oven. Then we attempt to bake pizza. That is when Mother Nature takes over the show. This video was shoot in the beautiful Parc régional du Poisson Blanc, Quebec during the 2010 Econo Challenge. Pizza Recipe: Crust — plain rice cake Sauce — Hot sauce packets from Toco Bell X 2 Pepperoni — Sliced meat stick Cheese — Extra old cheddar Bake in outback oven for 45 minutes. Give or take a rain storm or two. (Note that heavy rain will turn your pizza into a soggy mess in seconds.) How to build an Outback Oven: www.youtube.com How to make the bread dough: www.youtube.com

    @BayAreaHiker Give you a hint. The next trip we plan to use the bread dough for the pizza crust.

    LOL! , I am certain that in their redneck minds, they do see themselves as “warriors”. What is frightening is that some of these Warriors have a large legion of followers.

    They romanticize the day of Armageddon, when their cache of armory, survival skills and killer attitudes will raise them from society’s mischiefs into leaders.

    @Woodenarrows This was our first trip into this area. Everywhere else in Canada it is called “Crown Land”. In Quebec it is called “Provincial Land” but it is basically the same. This area has been classed as a nature preserve. If you plan to camp inside the nature preserve, a small donation is required. The campfire pit was a disaster. So we cleaned it up, rebuilt the heat reflecting wall and installed the oven. This trip I learned why you don’t let your rice cakes get wet!

    Finally, a decent use for rice cakes :)) Nicely built oven. Is this a semi-regular site of yours? I like that North woods scenery.

    @haker72757juan OK. I have watched it. Thank you for the tip. First I say the work area looked like a construction site while he built his oven. One hole, one pile of dirt and a pile of ash. I did like how he threw the leave no trace comment in at the very end. As for the bread baking I think “Ihatchetjack” has a much better low impact method for backing the same bread. “Hobo Biscuit Baking.”

    @solobackpacking We are calling them the weekend warriors. They will be the subject of more videos in the future. I think there are a few rednecks in every group including hikers.

  13. solobackpacking says:

    I like the intro.
    I agree, rednecks should not be allowed into national parks.
    Their loud Harley Daividsons, guns and pick up trucks ruin the experience.

    Chorizo is a Spanish spicy paprika sausage (dried) very delicious, to eat just like that or to mix with rice,eggs or make pizza. You can keep it very long time out of the fridge. Ideal for the trail.

    @IHatchetJack The more we watch the more we realize we have access to something really special in our backyard. Now we just have to figure out how to keep it from getting trashed.

  16. EconoChallenge says:

    @Trailtraveller Chorizo? What is that?

  17. EconoChallenge says:

    @MrBudwv Someday I might learn enough to have the confidence to eat wild mushrooms. But at the moment I will only eat puffball. Now a slice of puffball might work nicely. That I can do!

  18. EconoChallenge says:

    @nedeljkomostar Thank you.

  21. Trailtraveller says:

    You can use the old bread, toast it first …. Some ketchup, spices, cheese and chorizo …yummy…So you not spill food.
