LG WM3987HW Washer Dryer Combo Ventless, Part 1

This is a relatively new replacement for the old washer and dryer that was here. This machine sits below, then above it, I have the LG steamdryer, Model DLEX2501W. These two machines stack together magnificently with the standard LG mounting kit, so you get the effect of three machines in the space of two. The contents of this washer in this clip is stuffed with 6 king sized pillowcases, and three layers of king-sized sheets plus 2 king-sized shams. It’s not always practical to wait for a full wash and dry in one machine because depending on contents, it can take longer. That’s why I added the standard 220v dryer atop for very bulky stuff like king sized goose down comforters. In this case, I was running out the door today and wanted this all done in one pop when I get home later tonight. For lighter loads of clothes, its usually about 2 hours for both wash and dry. So how does it work without a vent? There is a genius cold water heat exchange inside the washer and two inner tubs, yet this is a super-capacity machine. A standard plug is all that’s needed, (no 220v). In the dry mode, a heater comes inside and circulates hot air and begins to heat the inside until the contents’ moisture turns to vapor. In short, the contents “sweat” until they are dry. In order to remove this vapor, about 1-2 gallons of cold water spritz around the outer drum in spurts, creating condensation on the outer drum, which drips around the outer drum then is pumped out from the bottom of the

Hi, I just checked my machine and don’t see any orange clips. Perhaps the clips were for shipping? Mine is up on the 2nd floor, and the delivery guys set it all up and took all of the boxes and shipping containers when they left.

Hi Guys, This little video clip took on a life of its own and got thousands of hits. I was a bit surprised, but thanks for stopping by. I made another video as a result of so many questions, I put a link of it in the description above.

@lakewebsterkid, yes there is a lint catcher per se, but it’s never had anything in it. There is a small opening about the size of a soda can that comes out to reveal a basket like part. This machine also has a “tub clean” function that is literally a feature to clean the three inner drums. Just add bleach to the bleach compartment, and press tub clean. At first it sounded stupid to clean a washing machine, but then when I saw how the cycle ran, understood why. It spins in such a way to hold

@ angeldooley, I’ve always liked cool appliances around the house an try to make sure each appliance can do more than one thing. For instance this washer drys the clothes, the dryer steams them, the whirlpool oven in the kitchen called the “Polara” (now discontinued), can be used as a refrigerator or blast chiller, yes the oven turns to a 42 degree frig instantly. My blender cooks, and the living room converts to a theater with one button. It’s taken years to find all these cool things but they

@ IamFreeRU . Yep it really does dry the clothes without a vent. It literally has in internal heater that heats the air and makes the contents get so hot they steam. You’ll hear a burst of water sound during the dry cycle. That is cold water which condenses the steam internally so it can then be pumped out. Very ingenious!

I have had this washer/dryer since last March and love it. I think I run it at least daily. I love it and would order it again if I had to.

@Intellihome so does it really dry the clothes. im very close to buying one, but dont want to get screwed over.

  11. Intellihome says:

Yep, lots of time but it was pretty full on that cycle that day. Fortunately I have a vent in the closet so there is a steam dryer in this space too. The double feature of the washer is really great for when you are leaving and want everything done, or perhaps use the delay timer.

DAMN four hours is a long time

so far I love mine. my only complaint is that if you want to use the dryer it will spin first

I love mine and it’s been trouble free for three years. It’s not vented and I like that feature because it’s not sucking heated or cooled air out of my house. Also, it’s fast and very efficient, gets the dirtiest clothes very clean, and it’s especially quiet. I would rate mine for a family of no more than three (It’s a smaller model.).

@ IHeartRoti1, They must have improved this from 2008. The dry cycle works excellent. The 4 hours was wash and dry. It automatically measures weight and contents. Lighter loads are usually about 2 hours for both wash and dry. @ lakewebsterkid, there is no link catcher per se, but the machine has a tub cleaning cycle, and there is a small part that unscrews to remove excess lint. In months and months have only needed to clean it once. Since I stacked the regular dryer above, it gives me the adva

Is there still a lint catcher?

Do you love this machine? I have seen a few bad reviews however they were from 2008. My guess is that LG has worked out the kinks by now (2011). Please advise. WOW it takes 4 hours to wash? Is that wash and dry or just wash?
